Microbiome Ecology & EvolutionÂ
We are a new Research Group at the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London. We combine theory with experimental, clinical, and wild systems to understand how the microbiome assembles and influences host health. Our work uses a multi-disciplinary approach spanning microbial function through to eco-evolutionary dynamics. Current projects include:
Developing amphibian models to understand the role that glycans (sugar chains) on epithelial surfaces and in the host mucosa play in pathogen colonisation, microbial community assembly and function
Discovering mechanisms of microbe-mediated protection against fungal pathogens and how these shape infection dynamics
Developing novel approaches to manipulate the microbiome to enhance resistance to infection
